Netflix Inc., the global leader in internet entertainment, revealed that its original series Selection Day will premiere worldwide on December 28, 2018.
Adapted from Aravind Adiga's acclaimed novel, Selection Day tells a poignant coming-of-age tale centered on two siblings whose demanding, cricket-obsessed father pushes them relentlessly toward becoming cricket champions in India. The narrative explores themes of ambition, love, self-acceptance, and the courage to forge one's own destiny.
The ensemble features Mahesh Manjrekar (Slumdog Millionaire, Kaante), Ratna Pathak Shah (Love Per Square Foot, Lipstick Under My Burkha), and Rajesh Tailang (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Mukkabaaz), alongside debut performers Yash Dholye and Mohammad Samad portraying the Kumar brothers, Radha and Manju.
Simran Sethi, Director of International Originals at Netflix, expressed enthusiasm about presenting this heartfelt coming-of-age narrative to audiences worldwide. She noted that Selection Day represents an excellent addition to Netflix's programming portfolio following the successful launches of Sacred Games and Ghoul.

He highlighted India's wealth of storytelling traditions and the opportunity to share these narratives globally, describing it as an ideal means of connecting people across cultures.
Producer Anand Tucker shared that Aravind Adiga's exceptional novel inspired him to bring this story to a worldwide audience. He expressed hope that viewers from Mumbai to Mombasa to Minnesota would embrace the series, crediting Netflix's creative collaboration for bringing this universal tale of family, cricket, and maturation to vivid life.
The story follows fourteen-year-old Manju, groomed for cricket stardom despite his aversion to the sport. Under his domineering father's control, Manju's primary purpose has been supporting his older brother Radha's cricket ambitions. Upon relocating to Mumbai and enrolling in a new school, Manju discovers interests beyond cricket and begins distancing himself from his father and brother's influence. Significantly, he befriends Radha's chief cricket competitor, a boy embodying the freedom and self-assurance Manju has never known.
The production is a collaboration between Seven Stories Ltd and Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network Pvt. Ltd.
